Change is the only constant.
Let me say this again – change is the only constant.
A powerful sentence by the founder and owner of the architectural practice where my husband worked for over 10 years. He was reminiscing over the 40 years of his practice – many beautiful buildings designed and built, a studio at the forefront of sustainability, many awards, a reasonable amount of staff changes, 2 financial crises and the accidental death of his co-founder. In his words:
“Practice has always been the process: change is the only constant”.
Some people struggle with change, although change is intrinsically part of life – from natural life phases and changes that people bring upon themselves voluntarily, to changes outside of our control.
As an active member of the FIRE community in the UK, I am happy to see that my fellow FIREs and FIRE seekers worldwide have a healthy approach to change. Once they find this community they are hooked and adapt their lives to the simple rules of self-determination and financial independence.
During the course of my life I moved to and settled in a different country, met an amazing man, have gone through a career change and my fair share of redundancies, had a difficult pregnancy and birth and decided a few months ago I needed more freedom and flexibility and became an independent contractor. I discovered Financial Independence a few years ago but have only been serious about it for a couple of years.
I embrace change and, when things are difficult and out of my control, I find strength and reassurance in my family – husband and my daughter. They are the people I think of when taking decisions.
When change is difficult, family, friends and community are the answer.
In the meantime I enjoy my path through life and towards a financially free future to share with my family and friends.
